Enjoying The Chaos

Ready, Set, Go…. December 12, 2012

So I’ve been searching for a workout program that i can fit into my busy schedule, give me amazing results, and one that doesn’t have me starving myself.

I’m pretty sure I found it.  I’ve been waking up early in the morning to workout and up until yesterday, I’ve been winging it…not any more.

Brianna, a personal trainer who lost 100 lbs herself, has developed a program for women who are trying to lose their baby weight and get the body they want back.  I’m still trying to lose the baby weight from lil b…even though she just turned 6:/

Check it out for yourself over at Bikini Body Mommy

I did the fit test today:
Squat Jumps     27
Speed Squats   27
High Knees      100
Burpees           8
Pushups          25 on my knees
Elbow Planks  18 seconds
Lunges            15
Tricep Dips     12

If you decide to join me..keep me posted as to your progress.

TNT January 10, 2012

So, I did something wild and crazy the other day.

I have been playing around with the idea of joining Leukemia & Lymphoma Socitey team in training.  They are running the IronGirl 1/2 Marathon this Apirl very close to my home.

The fundraising scares me more than running the 13.1 miles.  With a $1500 mimimum commitment, could I really pull this off?  Who knows.

I ran the Maryland 1/2 back in May..and it was a DISASTER.  With limited training ( I sucked at following the training plan), horrible nutrition and SO MANY HILLS…I didn’t do as well as I had hoped when signing up.  Althought I did raise $700 toward the University of Maryland Greenbaum cancer center.

So when I received an email last week informing me that they would waive the $100 registration fee if I signed up by 1/8, I thought, how can I not sign up.  TNT gives you the option to drop out if you feel that you can’t raise the money required or pay the difference.

On Sunday night, I was about to go to sleep, but I picked up my phone and registered.  What do I have to lose, right?

I opted for the flex training.  With mine and PW’s schedules so crazy, I thought it would be best to get in the runs on my own.  I love the idea of having a coach to help me though this training.  Someone to hold me accountable for my runs.  I am very excited to get started!

I started my yoga practice back up..and I couldn’t be happier.  I took a begginer vinyasa class on Saturday..my hamstrings and shoulders feel great/sore (aren’t they the same thing?)  I am headed to a hot vinyasa class this evening at Charm City with Steph…so excited!

I am hoping to use this as a place to track my training and fundraising.  I have started a food journal and i am writing everything that goes in my mouth down :/  I am trying to shed a few lbs for my sister’s wedding in April, or atleast tone up.  Let the chaos begin:)

Reevaluation July 20, 2011

I officially started training for the Baltimore Running Festival 1/2 Marathon, on Monday.

Since the last 1/2 the only running I have done was a 5k at the end of June.  Due to not training properly, the 1/2 was hard and I cried from mile 8-13.1 due to the pain in my hip flexors.  When I left the race, the only thing running were my thoughts of, “How is this fun?  Who decides to become a runner at 35 years old?”

Well, I do.  I don’t have to be a fast runner.  I don’t ever plan to place in my age group (not until I am 60 and then I’ll take 3rd;)  I don’t have to have an under 2 hr 1/2 PR.  I don’t ever plan to run a marathon…*well not right now anyway*.

What I do have to do this time is follow a training schedule and fuel my body properly so that I can keep my body healthy.

I would like to lose a few lbs.  I would like to increase my endurance.  I would like to find a way to get in the zone.  I would like to finish the 1/2 in October with a smile on my face..or atleast without painful tears.

So, like I said, training started on Monday.

On Monday, I did some stretching, push ups and sit ups.

On Tuesday, I ran 2 miles on the treadmill.  I was suppose to run 3 but that it wasn’t happening on the dreadmill..UGH!

I have the hardest time running on the treadmill…I watch the numbers, I watch the little arrow going around the “track”, my knees hurt, I focus on my feet, on the person in front of me whose pants are falling down on the elliptical, or the girl who is talking on her cell phone next to me…2miles felt like 22…and I was only on it for 22 min…(told you I was a slow runner).

The plan is to do some cross training today.  Possibly some laps in the pool….I have to see if the weather and the kids cooperate:)

I have decided to follow Hal Higdon’s Novice 1/2 marathon training plan..we’ll see how it goes.

How is this a day off? May 26, 2011

I know I promised to re-cap my fitbloggin Saturday, but I was in Super Busy Mom mode today and now I am exhausted.

The day started off with a great parent/teacher conference at KP’s school..

..his teacher had nothing but great things to say about him.  He is off to the 1st grade next year…where has the time gone? *tear*

Then it was back home to pick up the big kid…

…he is leaving in a month to go off to Military school.  He will be gone for 6 straight months with no contact except for letters.  The thought of not having a phone/computer/television, for 6 weeks makes me anxious, imagine if you were 16 *sorry, 17 in 15 days*.  He just cut all of his hair off…it is so weird to be able to see his eyes again…I love it!  I plan to be spending as much time as possible with this guy until he leaves.

After dropping the big guy off at his dad’s, I headed to Target for some much needed items.  Of course, I ended up with shirts for every member of the house and nothing else:/  I hate going in there looking for a certain item..because I see everything else I want…I stopped myself and stuck with just the shirts..lol

Then home to get some much needed cleaning done.

So, I promise a Saturday Recap from FitBloggin tomorrow…now I am going online to get my free case of popchips…because I just ate the last bag from my swagbag that ditty must have overlooked;)

**I am starting the One Hundred Push Up Challenge tonight.  Katie, whom I got the pleasure to hang out with at FitBloggin last weekend,  has been talking about it on Twitter.  I thought I would jump in as well because it is never to late to start on your summer arms…I guess unless it is September…but then you could always say you were getting a head start for next summer:/

Have a great night! Be safe!!

Amazing Race March 13, 2011

This afternoon, I ran the Kelly Shamrock 5k..image

This is us before the race…me, Lori and her husband Jeff, Karen and Nicki.  This was Lore, Jeff and Nicki’s first race ever..and let me just say…all three of them rocked it!!

My plan was to run the whole thing..but that didn’t happen.  I felt that the course was very hilly…and gave myself permission to walk up the hills…all in all I feel that I did great.  I was not incredibly happy with my time…but I am still a work in progess…and right now all that matters to me is that I finish.

The weather was amazing..and I felt a bit overdressed with a long-sleeved shirt on..but in the shade I would have been really cold…so I was glad I wore it.

I was really glad that the race didn’t start until 1:15pm…with the time change I was all out of whack this morning and never could have made it out of bed early to run…Plus the weather was amazing by the time we started.

I felt like a million bucks after the race…but all I wanted was a cheeseburger…

I ran home..grabbed the kids from ditty….and ran to 5 guys…

this is all I could think about from the time I hit the finish line..until I took the first bite…epic fail…it wasn’t that tasty…I only ate half and then threw the rest way…ditty would be so upset with me(sorry!!)

I have such a packed week coming up…two papers due..a midterm due…and then spring break next week…

Yeah…I wish…

I plan to do some much-needed cleaning..catch up on some reading..and get in some running…oh and to spend some much-needed time with ditty the  offspring…

I hope to keep up with posting this week…

Did you ever go anywhere amazing for Spring Break???

11 weeks to go February 24, 2011

So, I have 11 weeks to be in 1/2 marathon shape…am I crazy???  I think so.

I don’t think that I will be ready to run a 1/2 by mid-May, but I am determined to do my best.

I am a week behind due to the kids being sick and being sick myself at the beginning of the week.

I posted my training program a few day back…and according Mr. Higdon..I should be running 3miles with some strength training today…HAHAHAH…<—that is me truly laughing out loud.  I got in 1.78 miles today..but let me tell you…I ran the whole thing..and that is amazing for me.

I went and purchased the Nike+iPod the other day to help me log my runs.  I am hoping that this will motivate me to get moving…

I was going to go to the gym today and hop on a treadmill and run until my legs couldn’t carry me any longer.  The other day i did it, but I think because I was getting sick, I only pulled out 1 mile before dropping.  After I dropped lil b off at school I started thinking that it wasn’t really that cold out, and that if Heather and Ali can run in freezing cold weather, I can’t complain about 48°.   So, I threw on my headband and my gloves and hit the pavement.  It felt amazing!!  With the cold yucky weather we have been having, I have been hiding in the gym..and I forgot how much I love running outside.

I think what got me out there today was starting to read this, Run Like A Mother – How to get Moving and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity, by Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea.  I am only on the Chapter 3 and have laughed out loud over a dozen time.

Being a mom of two little ones and one big one, I find it difficult to find the time to run.  Mornings are for fighting over what to wear to school, even though KP wears a uniform.  It’s about spilled milk, lunch box filling, book bag grabbing running to the bus stop before the bus leaves at 7:30am when he is supposed to stay there until 7:40am.  After dropping KP off..it onto dropping lil b off at daycare and getting myself to work in time so I can get in at least 36 out of the 40 hours I am supposed to work.  I sit at my desk, surrounded by co-workers that believe that wings, pizza and subs have their own space on the food pyramid and try to get at least 4-5 servings at one sitting, for 10 hours 4 days a week.  It usually feels like my days never end…some days I am lucky enough to be able to head home to say goodbye to ditty as he leaves for work, make dinner, spend some quality time with the little ones, baths, bed, homework….ok, so..there is no energy left after that.  Other days, I have to leave work and head to school to sit in class until 10pm.

When I started running it was a lot easier.  I wasn’t working full-time and I didn’t take it to seriously.  It was April of last year and after seeing that a few friends ran their first 5k, my interest was piqued.  I signed up for my first 5k in June.  Since then I have run 6 5ks and have loved most everyone.  I never did it for time and I never tried to PR in any of them, but this year I am hoping to step up my game.  I plan to put a lot of effort into my training and my 5k time has gone to imporve…but if not…I’ll be okay with that.

I love this book became so far..they know where I am coming from.  Although both authors started running before the age of 34, unlike me..lol, they just understand that sometime you would rather run then put the folded laundry away tonight…or that sometime..if the living room is messy..the world will not come to an end.  If you are a mom..and you love to run..it is a total must read.

I have to thank my friend Karen for giving it to me…alone with a pair of AWESOME socks and an extra tech t she had….I love that I have finally surrounded myself with strong like-minded women!!!  Thanks Kar!!!

TRAINING… February 16, 2011

So, as I was taking a look at my calandar..I realized holy guacamole…i start 1/2 marathon training…next week.  This is not the best of news for me as I have been suffering with some hip issues and haven’t made it to the gym due to that and the two snotty nosed sicklings that reside in my home.

After Disney on Ice this Sunday, lil b started to run a fever…a nap was totally what she needed.  When we woke up the fever was a blazzin…so we took a trip to Patient First…lil b had the flu.  We are now on Wednesday…she is feeling better…and I am happy to say that none of us have any signs of it!! YAY!!

She is feeling much better today…so I knew I had to get to the gym.  I was so worried about my hip…i can’t describe the feeling…it feels like a sore muscle inside my hip socket.  So, I have been resting it…a lot…and eating lots of ice cream…to help the hop feel better 😉

I started in the cardio cinema on the elliptical for about 10 minutes and i was feeling good.  I decided I would head out to the treadmill to try to get in at least a mile…and that is what I did.  I know this sounds lame, weak, beginner stuff…but this is a big deal to me because of these hip issues.  I finished the mile strong and could have kept running..but I didn’t want to push it..I was feeling good.  I ran upstairs to do some ab work and then back to the CC to finished with another 10 min on the elliptical…and finished with some stretching.  I still am loving the ballet bar at the gym…i want one for the basement.

Depending on how I feel tomorrow…I may try to up it to 1.5 and see how I do…

I was signed up for the St Patrick’s Day 5k in a few weeks..but with the hip pain…I sold my registration to a girl at work.  She is going to run her first 5k and by the time she went to sign up the registration was closed.  Had I not sold it..I may have tried to run it…oh well.

I have a few races planned for the next few months and I am so excited to get back to running.  I may never win an age range…or run a marathon..but I love crossing the finish line.  It is an amazing rush and a total feeling of accomplishment that I don’t get anywhere else.  It is the one thing that I do for me!!

I have decided to train using Hal Higdon‘s 1/2 marathon training plan.  It seem pretty easy to follow for my first half…
